Why the site feels slow, and the first five fixes

Most “slow WordPress” tickets are not a mystery. They are a hero image at 4 MB, a slider plugin, three Facebook pixels, and a page builder loading widgets you are not using.
Do these first
- Compress images. WebP if the host and theme allow it.
- Turn off plugins you cannot explain in one sentence.
- Cache HTML for logged-out visitors. Do not cache cart and checkout.
- Load fonts with
font-display: swapand only the weights you use. - Stop lazy-loading the first image in the viewport.
If it is still slow after that, then we talk about object cache, a better host, or rewriting a query. Not before.
